Authentically created with retric-style embroidery, all pieces from the
Gaura Collection are designed with a contemporary touch. "Fashion for me
is an art form, an expression of self," says Shruthi. "I draw my
inspiration from my culturally rich, vibrant and multi-colored roots."
Most fabric she uses are produced through hand-weaving from village
craftsmen from different corners of India. Trims are added from the
magic waving of wands similar to those of crafts men of long ago who,
even today, continue the profession which they learned from their
ancestors. Shruthi takes immense pride in taking this age old art to the
world market with a contemporary touch. Shruthi’s designs are a
“tribute to Indian handlooms, embroideries and crafts." Shruthi
graduated in fashion design from MIFT, Mangalore University, one of the
best fashion institutes in India. Currently, she owns a company Gaura,
based in India, which manufactures and exports her line mainly to North
America, UK and Africa.
