This seemingly realistic depiction of the
fashion industry as a whole does not hold true in a country where the
average size of an American women is 14. Healthy and size 0 rarely go
hand in hand. You don't need to deprive yourself of life to be
beautiful. Dressing for your figure is the key to looking great and
feeling confidant all in one amazing package.(read

Cooking with New Chef: Mulugeta
Magnifico! Just think of having dinner outsourced and it tasting–
savory and flavorful, just like home.
Mulugeta Abraha is an executive cook with the ability to whip up
self creatives of exotic Eritrean, Ethiopian and
Italian-style Cuisines. One would think typical dishes would be
served, as most restaurants would with the same old stuff,
same old style -- yet upon your table rests a bestowment of
artistic, eye-appealing flavorful, healthy full-course meal with the
appetizer, entrée, main dish and even homemade dessert.
Mulugeta can definitely pop upscale, declan gourmet or just the
traditional classic style.
The meals, which include so many that that they can be indexed, can
be served to suite a family or a just a date. “This rice is
beautiful,” says my 5-year-old daughter who is normally finicky
about rice. To me the rice was one of his more simpler dishes, a
basic white goya-styled rice served with the dinner.
Though the food is culturally inspired and inclined, it is versatile
for any ethnicity, giving way to any international dwelling.
From mild to spicy, among others, the chicken for example, can be
serenaded to a tender taste and served as a doro wat
(Ethiopian/Eritrean) or baked in simmering sauce. Dainty
Italian-style dishes would work well at business meetings, weddings
or just satisfy as a casual dinner.
Though he is diverse in skill, Mulugeta is an expert at
Eritrean/Ethiopian and Italian dishes and has a host of his own
trays including ice cream, frostings and dressings.
Mulugeta has all the skills needed to be successful as a chef. His
attributes include being extremely swift, reliable, and hardworking.
He currently has plans to host a food tasting, publish a book and
open a restaurant. Just call him Bistro Mulugeta.

MAC Cosmetic's Newest Beauty Icon
Photo: newscom.com
NEW YORK -- M-A-C Cosmetics,
the leading brand of professional cosmetics and
makeup artist brand of choice, named Raquel
Welch, award-winning actress and screen siren,
its fourth M-A-C Beauty Icon. Ms. Welch,
well-known for her own artistry skills, and
M-A-C Cosmetics closely collaborated on a colour
collection available at M-A-C locations
worldwide, February 2007.
To celebrate the launch of the
Raquel Welch Beauty Icon Collection -- On
January 17th, 2007, M-A-C Cosmetics hosted an
intimate dinner honoring Raquel Welch as their
newest Beauty Icon.
Ms. Welch -- a natural choice
for M-A-C, given her exquisite beauty and unique
spirit -- follows in the steps of
Liza Minnelli, Diana Ross
and Catherine Deneuve. Each icon has been
shot by photographer, Michael Thompson, in his
New York Studios under the direction of James
Gager, Senior Vice President/Creative Director,
M-A-C Cosmetics.
"Raquel Welch, M-A-C's fourth
Beauty Icon, is the original, ultimate pin- up
bombshell," says Mr. Gager. "Raquel represents
the va-va-voom that M-A-C has always been famous
for. She's a real tigress at heart, an
international film star as well as a beauty who
represents the diversity of ethnicity in terms
of her heritage. She truly embodies the essence
of M-A-C."
"When M-A-C approached me to
their Beauty Icon face for 2007, I was
delighted!," says Ms. Welch. "I've been a
devotee of M-A-C products for over 20 years.
Because of my profession, the art of makeup is a
real passion of mine, both on and off screen, so
it's exciting to be designing a signature
collection for M-A-C. When I started making
movies, I was exposed to an entire arsenal of
makeup techniques and discovered that in a world
of beauty, cosmetics are an important fashion
statement as well as a key element of personal
style. What is 'real' style? I believe in the
theory that a real style is being yourself, on
purpose."
Bright colours represent this
iconic sex symbol and legendary screen siren.
Specially created for women of all races and
ages, the Raquel Welch Beauty Icon Collection
conveys classic sex appeal and arresting beauty.
The collection is packaged in a tiger-print
pattern and "was created and designed around
Raquel's love for shading and her ability as a
makeup artist," says Jennifer Balbier, Senior
Vice President, Product Development, M-A-C
Cosmetics.
"M-A-C admires and respects
everything about Raquel Welch," says Peter
Lichtenthal, Global General Manager, M-A-C
Cosmetics. "Raquel is an iconic Hollywood sex
symbol and cult siren and was a joy to
collaborate with. As we worked with her on this
collection, we were constantly impressed by her
extensive beauty knowledge.
"M-A-C's Beauty Icon for 2007,
Raquel Welch, debuts her collection that
celebrates her iconic image: strong and wild,
yet sultry and exotic. Available February 2007

Project Runway, watch out!Meet and greetthe 1st Annual
Connecticut Fashion Designer Challenge winner, Melissa Scianna, at Sogno
(pronounced “so-nyo”), Boutique of Dreams on Saturday, December 16 from 2-5 PM.
Melissa, a Middlefield native and senior at
the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan, entered the challenge at the
last possible moment on the Monday before the show. Being the last day to enter
the challenge, Melissa received an e-mail from her friend Emilee Mitchel,
Co-founder of Creatively Eclectic Originals, who has worked with Sogno in the
past. Melissa raced to contact the boutique to ensure her participation. “It
was one of those things where I thought to myself, what if had said ‘I am too
tired’ or ‘it’s too last minute’? I would have missed out on what I consider
the opportunity of a lifetime.”
Not to
be bullied by bad weather that stormy day, designers featured their work inside
Sogno, Boutique of Dreams and Elm City Artists Gallery on Audubon Street.
Models and fans alike waited anxiously for the runway show and after a very
technical grading scale, the winner was announced. So, what did Melissa win? A
year long contract of exposure, experience and retail space in the shopping
sanctuary of Sogno! Melissa beamed, “I truly feel like the luckiest person in
the world right now! It feels like every bit of hard work I’ve ever put in has
now paid off. I’ve always felt like my ideas just needed the right outlet and
now I’ve found that and I’m so thankful that my family and friends could be here
to see it happen because they are what got me this far.”
Krista Camputaro, owner of Sogno, was the mastermind
behind this first ever Fashion Designer Challenge. She didn’t have to look
farther than her own city to realize the need for a venue for emerging
designers. Krista stated, “I see New Haven and its surrounding cities as having
an abundance of artisans within the fashion industry. There is a huge
opportunity for these raw talent designers to display their creativity to the
public. As Sogno, Boutique of Dreams is growing and becoming a staple within
the New Haven community, I am proud to support and sponsor these designers in
their efforts to promote themselves throughout the Award Winning Arts District.”
This 1st Annual Connecticut Fashion Designer
Challenge was the first stitch attempt to allow Sogno and New Haven to showcase
the talents of fashionistas throughout Connecticut. Community members involved
with making the challenge possible include Julie Braun, the Marketing Guru of
Julie Braun Design, Jose Monteiro, a New Haven community leader and activist,
Corrine Thomas, founder of Imani Fashion Publications and Sheila Gaillard,
lifestyle editor of Public Mag. There has been overwhelming interest and
requests of a forum for fashion designers. The goal was to create and develop a
New Haven Fashion Week, where fashion seminars, shows, and networking events,
can turn fashion designer concepts into obtainable goals for fresh talents to
reach the marketplace. According to Krista, “New Haven is the perfect,
culturally diverse, and incredibly alive city for such a high style event.”
Sogno,
Boutique of Dreams is located at 83 Audubon Street in New Haven. The boutique
hours are Monday through Friday from 10 AM-7 PM, Saturday, from 10 AM-5 PM, and
Sunday, from 11 AM-4 PM. Contact the boutique at 203-777-3226
